Ex Dragon Rock Venturer 2008

Proposed Rock Climbing Expedition to Burgundy France

19 July to 2 August 2008

The expedition will take a group of 12 to 20 cadets on a 2 week rock climbing expedition to the Burgundy area of France. The expedition will consist of single pitch rock climbing at a variety of location and involving different rock types, progressing the cadets to advance Extreme grades where possible.

It will be based at two campsites and the cadets will be shopping and cooking for themselves.

English is NOT widely spoken in this area.

Cost: The maximum cost per cadet will be £300 although it is anticipated to finalise nearer £200.

Timetable:

26 – 27 April 2008 - Selection/Training Weekend 1 – Beckingham CTC

Camping skills (pitching/cocking/admin/hygiene)

Teamwork skills (command tasks/obstacle course)

 

17 – 18 May 2008 - Selection/Training Weekend 2 – Boston CTC

Climbing & abseiling skills (Boston CTC/RAF Waddington climbing walls)

5 July 2008 Administration Day – Boston CTC

Personal documentation and kit allocation

 

19 July to 2 August 2008 – Climbing Expedition – Dijon France

Single pitch climbing & abseiling

 

This expedition will be pen to cadets who have passed 1 Star and are at lest 14 years old on 1 July 2008.

Priority of places will be given to senior cadets (16+) who will probably not get another opportunity to

take part in an expedition before they have to leave cadets.

Previous climbing experience or even a great climbing ability is not a pre-requisite to being selected.

 

Cadets must attend both selection weekends & the admin day to qualify for selection

Spring Camp 2008

12th - 19th  April 2008

On spring camp this year we will be running 3 Star Expeditions during the camp and no other AT activities.

The plan is to offer 2 expeditions back to back during the course of the 6 day camp.

This means the cadets will only have to give up 4 days of their study time.

All bids to detachment commanders

All bids must be into Capt Greenfield via OC/Sqn Training Officer before the end of January

There will also be adult training during the spring camp to allow adults to be authorised to run 1 and 2 star expeditions, if any adults wish to take to this offer please contact Capt Greenfield via OC/Sqn Training Officer before the end of January

Annual Camp 2008

The only expedition intended to be run on annual is for post 3 star.

This will be a 4 day expedition along the lines of a D of E gold,

this will also be open to 4 stars as an alternative to their usual annual camp activities,

any suitable candidates name to Capt Greenfield via Sqn Training Officer
