At The Seventh
Annual Sleaford Town Awards 2007
Sleaford Detachment was presented this years youth award
In the past this Award has usually been won by individual young people. Only once before did a group win. This time it went to a group that was nominated, amongst other things, for its ‘huge amount of input to town events’, its ability to ‘come out in force to help’ and the sheer numbers of young people who are involved with the group.
Army cadets get involved in all sorts of things; they meet up each week, go on camps, training sessions and take on community work. The Sleaford Detachment cadets have worked hard with the other volunteers on Mareham Pastures, one of the winners at the last awards. They helped out at the Historic Car Show last year and were a tremendous asset to Christmas Market, putting up signs, erecting gazebos, carrying tables, handing out programmes and generally being very helpful.
Part of the cadets’ role is to promote interest in the Army within the community, and they are more than willing to put on a good show, representing the force.
In Sleaford, the ACF is working towards affiliation with the local branch of the Royal British Legion, which will be an excellent example of generations working together
